In 2022, VideoAmp developed a sub-brand for all the events we attended, similar to the approach TEDTalks uses. We kept the main logo and created specific logos for each event. For the 2022 Cannes event, we drew inspiration from sea and nautical themes, aiming for an elevated look that stood out from typical corporate branding. This included a lot of blue, white, and stripes, along with anchors and rope textures.
For the 2023 Cannes event, we wanted to further develop the nautical theme while also drawing inspiration from French Riviera posters. We introduced an accent color that would really pop, making the design feel familiar to last year's but still distinct and fresh.
This year, I had the opportunity to art direct the Cannes 2023 aesthetic. I began by creating a mood board to explore ways to incorporate last year’s pattern while introducing an accent color. I experimented with different stripe designs and incorporated more imagery to align with our goal of using more photography and video to make the brand more human and relatable. Throughout the process, I collaborated with the marketing team to discuss deadlines and budgets. Once the overall key art was approved, I explored its application to both real-life and digital formats, such as invites and email campaigns. After these designs were approved, I coordinated with vendors to produce the items in time for the event.
We wanted to keep a similar french vibe with the stripes from 2022 so it felt familiar to people coming to Cannes again in 2023.
We drew inspiration from vintage French Riviera posters. The colors, typefaces, the framing/borders.
We explored how to incorporate a nice bright accent color as well as evolve the stripe motif into some interesting patterns. In 2023, we wanted to use lots of photos and videos to tie into the overall VideoAmp brand of being more human and relatable.
After the event, we received feedback from clients, customers, and passersby praising the branding for its standout and amazing appearance. This positive reception was evident in the numerous photos and videos taken at the event.
